About Us

Café 509's mission is to offer the best-roasted coffee that Haiti can provide while creating employment opportunities in Haiti. We work closely with the Cooperative Cacgava in Dondon, Cap-Haitien. By collaborating with the Cooperative, we can directly source our coffee beans from local farmers and maintain a transparent and traceable process from seed to cup. Profit from every sale aims to rebuild coffee-growing lands in Haiti, protect the land through responsible use, create jobs, manage schools, pay a fair & and equitable standard wage, and preserve the biodiversity of the Haitian forests.

The Independence Story:

In the heart of the Caribbean, surrounded by turquoise waters and vibrant culture, lies a place where history was made - Haiti. It was here, on January 1, 1804, that a story of resilience, courage, and freedom unfolded. As the world watched, Haiti became the first black republic to gain independence from slavery, forever changing the course of history. But this tale doesn't end with the triumph of liberation; it extends into the rich aroma of Café 509 - a coffee brand that embodies the spirit and legacy of the Haitian people.

Let's journey back in time to understand the significance of this remarkable country. Haiti's battle for freedom was fought against all odds. The enslaved took up arms, led by revolutionary leaders like Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Toussaint Louverture, who defied the chains of oppression. Through relentless struggle, they shattered the shackles and established a nation that would captivate the world.

But Haiti's impact extended far beyond its borders. This newfound freedom sent shockwaves throughout the global community, inspiring others to fight for liberty. From the Americas to Africa, people looked to Haiti as a beacon of hope, proving that change was possible.  It was in this fervent backdrop that Haitian Coffee emerged as a symbol of independence and progress where the country emerged as the largest coffee producer in the world.

In our exploration of the taste of independence, we have discovered its remarkable similarities to a perfectly brewed cup of coffee - smoothness, lack of bitterness, richness like dark chocolate, and vibrancy like fruity notes. Just as the exquisite taste of coffee lingers on your palate, the taste of independence remains in your spirit, urging you to embrace your own journey towards freedom and self-determination
